DAY BY DAY ITINERARY | |
Day 1: Departure. Overnight flight to
Prague. Day 2: Prague. Following arrival we take a walking guided tour of the Capital of Czech Republic. We will walk in the magical labyrinthine streets of Old Town and everyone will admire the Charles Bridge (1357) with a beautiful view of Prague's Hradcany Castle and fascinating movement of the Apostles and other mobile figures of the Astronomical Clock at the Townhall (from 1364). In the Jewish Quarter we visit the Prague Diamond Center to explore a long Jewish tradition of jewelry trade and processing. Tonight is an opportunity to enjoy the welcome dinner and meet fellow travelers and the Tour Director. (WD) Day 3: Prague. Accompanied by a qualified guide we see charming Lesser Quarter, Parliament, Wenceslas Square, National Theater, Vysehrad fortress, Strahov Monastery. We walk through the Hradcany quarter with many wonderful palaces. Also view Prague Castle (founded in 870-890), the former seat of kings and a seat of the Czech president today, St. Vitus Cathedral and Golden Lane. And what about some concert, opera, ballet, music show, Discotheque or original Czech pub tonight? (B) Day 4: Karlstejn, Prague. Today we visit Karlstejn, the famous Bohemian castle, founded by King Charles IV in 1348 as a vault for the Czech Coronation Jewels. The rest of the day is yours to explore Prague. In the evening we enjoy a fascinating show of music, water and lights at the Krizik Fountain. (B,D) Day 5: Pribram, Orlik, Zvikov. This morning we head to Pribram, recently a silver and uranium mining town. We visit UNESCO listed Mining Museum, including a unique collection of minerals, miner's houses and historic mining machine. An unforgettable experience is a ride on the underground mining's train. Then we visit the valuable baroque building Svata Hora (Hollow Mountain), the wellknown Virgin Mary's place of pilgrimage in Central Europe. From Orlik Dam you take a cruise to Orlik and Zvikov castles. (B, D) Day 6: Pisek, The Sumava N.P., Cesky Krumlov. On this morning you see the historic town Pisek and its oldest stone bridge in the Bohemia. Then you head into nature. The Sumava N.P., the largest N.P. in the Czech Republic, is referred to as the "Green Roof of Europe". There are the most precious natural habitats, like remnants of the primeval mountain forests, glacial lakes and valley highlands. We take a coach ride of the park and visit the Vltava River source. We also visit ancient, UNESCO listed town Cesky Krumlov. (B) Day 7: Ceske Budejovice, Jindrichuv Hradec, Tabor. In the South Bohemia metropolis, Ceske Budejovice, you see St. Nicholas Church, the beautiful view from the Black Tower, Samson Fountain, mediaeval torture chamber or the historic horse railway. Then you head to Jindrichuv Hradec (from 1293), where you visit a museum with the largest mechanical nativity scene in the world. Today's sightseeing finishes in Tabor, known as a center of one of the significant chapters of European history, Hussitism. A qualified local guide shows us a historical center, Gothic Town Hall, Museum of Hussitism, mediaeval warfare and the historical underground of town. You can join your Tour Director and visit a tavern for an original mediaeval drink. (B) Day 8: Telc, Podyji N.P., Bitov Castle. We head to the town known as the "White Pearl of Bohemia Towns" - Telc. Admire its splendid oblong center, lined by Renaissance houses with arcades. This UNESCO listed town is one of the most well preserved historic cities in the world. Today's second stop is in Podyji N.P. We will hike (4km / 2,5 miles) through scenic country around the Vranov Dam on the Dyje River to a colorful canyon with the Bitov Castle (1061), one of the most romantic castles. The most valuable part of the castle is its armoury with a collection of unique arms from 16th and 17th century. (B, D) Day 9: Uherske Hradiste, Kromeriz. Today we begin in Uherske Hradiste, a town with a well preserved town hall, Franciscan church and the Jesuit early baroque church. Picturesque Kromeriz (1260) is also known as "the Athens of Hana". The dominating feature of the town is an Archbishop's Chateaux (national cultural monument). Chateaux's interiors are often popular among filmmakers. You may recall the movie "Amadeus" by director Milos Forman. We cannot miss beautiful English style castle gardens and French style blossom garden with a long colonnade. Your Tour Director will invite you to The Archbishop's wine cellars for a wine tasting. (B) Day 10: "Hanicka" fortress, Opocno, Hradec Kralove. Today's trip takes you to the north of East Bohemia. You visit former Czechoslovak fortification against Nazi-Germany (1936-1938) and walk inside of underground tunnels. We also visit one of the most important Renaissance architectural "jewels" in the country, Opocno Chateaux. The evening is spent in "the Town of Czech Queens", Hradec Kralove. (B,D) Day 11: Adrspach, Safari Dvur Kralove. This day is spent in the middle of the Adrspach Rocks, the National Nature Reservation. The whole extensive premise has two "Rocky Towns" with 1 500 rocky towers. We take an exciting boat ride between the tall rocks. Next travel from Czech nature to "Czech Africa". In Safari Dvur Kralove we can see many exotic animals. (B) Day 12: Nelahozeves, Prague. Nelahozeves is one of the most significant Renaissance buildings of 16th century. Visit one of the richest private collections of Czech and Central European paintings dating from the Renaissance up to the 1930's. Then we visit the birthplace and memorial of famous Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. After a farewell dinner in the chateaux with original Lobkowitz wine and beer, the evening is free in Prague. (B, FD) Day 13: Prague / RETURN HOME. It is time for your return flight home. (B) |
