DAY BY DAY ITINERARY | |
Day 1: Departure. Departure. Overnight
flight to Prague. Day 2: Prague. Prague. Accompanied by qualified guide, you learn about the history of "Town of a hundred Golden Towers". See Old Town Hall (1364) and the Astronomical Clock, the magical Jewish Quarter, its cemetery and synagogue and unique Prague Diamond center. (WD) Day 3: Prague. Today you take a walking guided tour of Prague's Hradcany Castle. Also see the Old King's Palace, Vladislav Hall, St. George's Basilica and famous Golden Lane. Explore St. Vitus Cathedral, one of the greatest churches of the 14th century. (B, D) Day 4: Krivoklat, Caves of Koneprusy, Lidice. You head through the beautiful landscape of a preserved area to Krivoklat Castle, one of the oldest Czech castles (1109). Then your trip continues to the only touristic speleothem caves with artifacts of money forgers from 15th century, the Caves of Koneprusy. On our way back we visit Lidice; through tragedy it has become a world famous village. The Lidice Memorial and its exhibition honours the extermination of the village by the Nazi in 1942. (B) Day 5: Terezin, Kutna Hora. Today's trip begins in another memorable place, Terezin. This town, known as "The town behind bars" used to be a Jewish Ghetto during the Second World War. Then we go to Kutna Hora, founded in the early Middle Ages. The town's architecture is the main tourist attraction, particularly the impressive Church of St. Barbara. (B) Day 6: Litomysl, Namest na Hane, Olomouc. Today we start in Litomysl. Its dominating feature is a Renaissance chateaux (1568), with most impressive interiors (some of them you can see in Milos Forman's movie Amadeus). Then our journey continues to Namest na Hane. In Olomouc, after Prague the second oldest urban preservation area in Czech Republic, we see the St. Wenceslas Cathedral (1109), the Astronomical clock, the Moritz Church and its organs from 1745, called the "Queen of Moravian's Organs". (B, D) Day 7: Trencin, The High Tatras. You cross the borders to Slovakia today. Our first stop is Trencin. The oldest settlement is dated 2000 BC here. Ou visit Trencin Castle with an inscription from the Roman Empire (179). Then you head through magnificent landscapes to the highest mountain range in former Czechoslovakia, The High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry). (B, D) Day 8: The High Tatras, Demänovska Cave, Pribylina. This morning we go by cable up to Lomnicky stit, the second highest mountain of the High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry). Here you can capture a great view of the beautiful mountains. Then we visit Demänovska Cave, a wonderful drip stone cave with many lovely subterranean lakes. Then we go to Pribylina, where we will find an open-air museum of Slovak folk architecture. (B) Day 9: Kremnica, Bojnice, Banska Bystrica. Today's first stop is Kremnica, a town where gold was found in 11th century and where coins are still minted today. Then we visit Bojnice castle, a national cultural monument. See many precious artistic collections, one of the most beautiful interiors and a travertine cave below the castle, former habitat of Neanderthal men. The evening is spent in the former Royal town Banska Bystrica. (B, D) Day 10: Bratislava. You arrive in the capital of Slovakia today. A qualified guide shows you the charming, recently renovated city center. Enjoy a beautiful view of Bratislava Castle, see Michael's Gate, Old Town Hall, Maxmilian's Fountain on the Main Square and other sights. The rest of the day is free. (B) Day 11: Lednice, Brno. Depart Slovakia and return to Czech Republic today. Lednice is one of the most beautiful chateaux's and is an excellent example of English Tudor neo-Gothic style. We catch sight of prestigious rooms, a Minaret Obelisk in a large landscaped park and artificial stalactite cavern. In Brno, the Moravian metropolis, you will walk in the historical center and see Spilberk fortress. (B) Day 12: Cesky Krumlov, Rozmberk. Today we go to South Bohemia to visit delightful town Cesky Krumlov, listed by UNESCO as one of The Cultural Monuments of the World. We tour the Castle and then we head to Rozmberk Castle, well known for its rich collections and item of interest: the White Lady "Perchta". Maybe just you will be so lucky as to see her. (B, D) Day 13: Marianske Lazne, Cheb, Loket. Your journey continues to West Bohemia. Marianske Lazne is one of the most important Czech spa towns. Famous visitors include J.W. Goethe,F. Chopin, R. Wagner,J. Strauss and A. Dvorak among others. After you taste medicinal spring water, head to Cheb, a town with rich history dating back as early as the 9th century. See the Cheb Castle, guarded by the Black Tower, and the square with mediaeval buildings including the symbol of the town Spalicek. You cannot miss the Cheb Museum, which attracted thousands of visitors as early as 1874! In Loket Castle we enjoy a mediaeval dinner with original music. (B, D) Day 14: Nelahozeves, Prague. In the morning we head to Nelahozeves, significant 16th century Renaissance building. See the great Roudnice Lobkowitz Collection of paintings, musical instruments, furniture and applied arts. We visit the birthplace and memorial of famous Bohemian composer Antonin Dvorak and then go back to the castle for a farewell dinner. (B, FD) Day 15: Prague / RETURN HOME.
