DAY BY DAY ITINERARY | |
Day 1: Departure. Overnight flight to
Prague. Day 2: Prague. Following arrival and hotel check-in, we are accompanied by a qualified guide to explore the Golden City that was built on seven hills across the River Vltava. See the magnificent view of the Hradcany Castle from gothic Charles Bridge, Townhall (1364) and the mechanical Astronomical Clock with moving apostles and magic Jewish Quarter with its cemetery. Discover a long Jewish tradition of jewelry trade in a unique Diamond Center. (WD) Day 3: Prague(CZE). Accompanied by a qualified local guide we see this eternal historic city, one of most beautiful in Europe. We visit Prague Castle (founded in 870-890). We see St. Vitus Cathedral, Old King's Palace (880), Vladislav Hall, where the inauguration of Czech Presidents are held and ancient Golden Lane (home of Franz Kafka). Why not go shopping in historical alleys of Old Town? (B) Day 4: Cesky Sternberk, Kutna Hora. We begin this day in the very beautiful castle Cesky Sternberk (13th century), built on a tall cliff. Visit the Knight Hall with ornamental and figurative motives on the walls, the Yellow Saloon, the Chapel and other rooms. Look over splendid furniture, collections of copperplates, silver miniatures, chandeliers, tiled stoves and other historically precious works. Today's second stop is in the former Royal and mining Town Kutna Hora. Activities include sightseeing of the historical center including the Silver museum, exposition of handicrafts and the world famous magnificent St. Barbara Cathedral (14th century). The rest of the day is free. (B, D) Day 5: Adrspach Rocks, Nachod castle. The day is spent in nature in the middle of the Adrspach Rocks, the National Nature Reservation. The whole extensive premise has two "Rocky Towns" with 1 500 rocky towers. Accompanied by a professional guide we walk through the park and take an exciting boat ride between the tall rocks. Then we visit Nachod and its lovely castle. We'll be gripped by the unique Gobelin tapestry here and scared by the ghosts and spooks from the historical lands of the Czech Crown in the underground prison. (B, D) Day 6: Sychrov, Liberec. Today is rather leisurely compared to the previous day. Experience a world of music in the castle where Antonin Dvorak composed some of his genial bohemian music works. We are in Sychrov castle. See rich art collections, including the largest collection of French portrait art in Central Europe. Next, a visit of the world of famous Czech crystal awaits us. In Liberec we visit "Glass palace" and by a cable railway climb up to Jested mountain, to a TV Tower overlooking the city and surroundings. It is a must to enjoy a Bohemia pub in the evening! (B) Day 7: Krkonose N.P. Today we launch a great journey through history; the Krkonose mountain range (Over 300 million years old). Krkonose N.P. is one of the largest protected areas in Europe. In Vrchlabi we visit its ancient square, historic houses with exhibits of traditional crystal, clocks and nativity scenes and an original krkonose living room with a historical weaving loom. We cannot miss a ride up to the tallest Bohemia Mountain, Snezka. (B, D) Day 8: Ploskovice, Terezin, Karlovy Vary. We continue on our journey to the lovely Ploskovice chateaux. After seeing the interiors and a "grotto", the world unique fake water caverns with fountains, we come to Terezin, "The town behind bars". We visit the memorable Nazi Terezin Ghetto. The end of the day is spent in the world famous spa town, Karlovy Vary. This spa with many hot and cold thermal springs attracted many famous people, like Beethoven, Brahms, A. Dvorak, and Goethe. (B) Day 9: Pilsen, Domazlice, Klatovy. This morning we visit famous Pilsner Urquell brewery and the brewery museum, the oldest museum of its kind on the world. Then we go to Domazlice to see its ancient center and tall leaning tower. In Klatovy we will be very interested to look at 40 mummies in coffins with glass lids. The bodies were not mummified by some chemical process, but by ingenious air ducts. (B, L) Day 10: Cesky Krumlov, Ceske Budejovice. Today we discover a picturesque ancient town, Cesky Krumlov. We visit Cesky Krumlov Castle that dominates this UNESCO town and walk through the historical alleys in city center. In the afternoon our qualified guide takes us to a historical center of Ceske Budejovice. The horse railway is an interesting stop and then we have a free time. The Tour Director invites you to a farewell dinner of Bohemian specialties. (B, FD) Day 11: Hluboka n/Vlt., Pribram. Hluboka nad Vltavou Chateaux is the most visited monument in South Bohemia. We take a tour of this "Pearl of South Bohemia". Its 120 rooms hide a lot of exceptional valuable art collections. Then we head to Pribram. Above the town rises a great monument, Svata Hora (Hollow Mountain). We visit this valuable baroque building and wellknown Virgin Mary's place of pilgrimage in Central Europe. Antonin Dvorak once lived in the nearby village Vysoka. We visit his museum and see the small Rusalka (water nymph) gardens lake, where he composed his opera Rusalka. (B, D) Day 12: Prague / RETURN HOME. It is time for your sameday flight home. (B) |
